MODEL OVERVIEW

About this model: LG LDT5678ST

LG LDT5678ST: exact stainless model, nine verified display errors and practical control guidance.

Identify the stainless LDT5678ST

The LDT5678ST is the stainless steel member of LG's LDT567 family. Its official specification distinguishes that suffix from the black stainless BD version, and the support page lists the owner booklet for this exact US product. The booklet uses the wider LDT567#** cover designation, so the exact sheet is essential when connecting its advice to this particular machine. This model provides fifteen place settings, a NeveRust stainless tub, three spray arms and a 46 dBA noise rating. It has a bar handle, fully integrated controls along the top edge, an adjustable upper rack and a third rack whose height does not adjust. That rack distinction matters when loading tall items: moving the upper rack is an option, while trying to raise the cutlery rack is not.

Interpret its lights and controls

LDT5678ST has both a digital control display and the front-facing SignaLight indicators. A red front light marks an error; steady white means ordinary operation, blinking white means a paused cycle, and green marks normal completion. The white blink alone should therefore lead you to check the door and Start sequence before treating the machine as broken. If Start is pressed with the door open, the door must close within four seconds; otherwise the machine gives an alert and does not begin. The numeric display generally estimates the selected cycle or shows remaining time, while Delay Start changes it to hours. A rinse-aid icon asks for a refill, and a lit Wi-Fi icon reports connection status. None of those ordinary symbols is itself a component fault.

Choose washing and drying deliberately

The exact specification lists nine wash cycles and eight options, making cycle choice more useful than a generic reset. Auto adapts to soil, Heavy targets baked-on residue, and Express is for lightly soiled dishes. Turbo washes heavy soil quickly but has no drying phase by default; select Extra Dry or Night Dry when dry dishes matter. The Normal cycle can run Night Dry ventilation after washing, reducing moisture if the load stays inside overnight. Dual Zone places gentler spray above and stronger spray below, so mixed loads belong on the appropriate racks. Half Load lets a small load use one rack. The machine's hybrid condensing system draws humid air through a door duct with a fan rather than using a drying element; rinse aid supports that process.

Read actual water and leak codes

The owner table assigns IE to a water-inlet problem. Check that water is available and that the reachable inlet hose is not kinked, clogged or frozen. OE concerns drainage; its listed checks cover the drain hose, air gap or disposal, and the filters. The bE message is different: excess suds from unsuitable detergent or a machine that is not level may trigger it, so adding more detergent is the wrong response. AE means water leakage. The manual says to shut off the dishwasher's water supply and call LG; it also explains that the drain pump can run intermittently and the machine can power itself back on until the leak condition is resolved. Record the exact two-character display before acting, because these paths call for very different first checks.

Separate service faults from settings

FE is excessive water supply, HE a heater-circuit failure, tE a thermistor failure, LE motor trouble, and nE Vario motor trouble. LG directs the owner to its service center for these conditions rather than giving a home repair sequence. The same manual carefully labels several other strings as normal modes: P1 through P4 identify a downloaded cycle; L0 through L4 show rinse-aid dosing; CL means Control Lock; and the n/U/d/t strings with numbers belong to test mode. Treating CL or a P-cycle name as a fault would create an unnecessary service request. First check whether the screen is showing a mode, a refill symbol, or one of the nine entries in the actual error table.

Maintain the parts you can reach

Filter condition affects both cleaning and drainage on this design. LG describes removing the lower rack, unlocking the inner filter counterclockwise, rinsing the assembly and reinstalling it until it clicks. The filter schedule varies with loads and pre-rinsing habits; the spray-arm holes should also be inspected and cleaned about every two weeks. Use an empty Machine Clean cycle for the tub rather than placing dishes in it. Rinse-aid delivery can be set from L0 to L4, so a low icon or persistent spotting deserves a settings check before assuming a drying failure. SmartThinQ supports connection on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and Smart Diagnosis can send appliance data through a phone to LG. These tools support a repair conversation, but they do not replace the panel code and the manual's specific response.
