MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE PVM2070DMCC
PVM2070DMCC is GE's bisque 2.0-cu-ft touchscreen Spacemaker. Its CONTROL IS LOCKED, REM and NITE messages describe three different owner settings.
Recognize the bisque touchscreen PVM2070DMCC
PVM2070DMCC is the bisque-on-bisque GE Profile Spacemaker with a 2.00-cubic-foot cavity and a stated 1,100-watt microwave output. GE identifies an electronic touch LCD for this exact suffix, while the linked owner PDF is headed PVM2070. Its EasyGuide Home screen is the starting point for Cook, Reheat, Defrost, two Custom shortcuts and Options; a time-cook example walks the owner through a summary screen before Start. This layout is central to troubleshooting because the exact product lists an automatic sleep mode and OFF for the display. GE's Problem Solver explicitly says an apparently inactive screen may be asleep and advises pressing HOME or the touchscreen. The guide also says pressing OFF on Home darkens the display but does not disconnect the appliance from its power supply. Therefore a black screen alone cannot establish a tripped breaker. Confirm whether the screen wakes, whether a cooking program was cancelled, and whether the door is closed before treating a display state as an electrical fault. The family cover does not name the DMCC finish, so bisque color, capacity and output here come from GE's exact model record.
Separate sleeping display, lock and reminder states
CONTROL IS LOCKED is a different screen state from sleep. GE lists Child Lock for PVM2070DMCC, and the linked guide says holding OFF for about three seconds toggles that lock. Its Problem Solver repeats the same release when CONTROL IS LOCKED appears, while listing an asleep panel and an unclosed door as separate reasons an oven might not start. The exact product also lists a 24-hour Reminder alarm and a cooking-complete reminder, but these are separate from the lock. In Options, REMINDER lets the owner choose a time up to 24 hours ahead; REM stays lit while that alarm is armed, and OK silences its signal. NITE means Auto Nite Light is scheduled, with independently entered on and off times. Display Options can also hide the clock and change screen contrast. The built-in Help screen includes a Troubleshooter, accessible from Home, for a guided check of common problems. Record the literal text and whether HOME wakes the panel; otherwise a child lock, scheduled light and darkened clock can all be reported inaccurately as one display failure.
Interpret the filter timer and over-range ventilation
This unit sits above the cooktop and GE specifies four exhaust speeds including Boost for the exact product. Its product sheet identifies external venting, while listing the JX81H recirculating charcoal filter kit as optional. That distinction matters when interpreting FILTER REMINDER in the family manual: the menu offers a 180-day countdown to remind an owner to change a charcoal filter, but it is a calendar timer rather than a sensor that measures dirt. It is most relevant if a recirculating configuration and charcoal filter are actually installed; the externally vented product specification by itself does not prove such a filter is present. The Options screen can show remaining days, reset the timer to 180 days, or switch the reminder on and off. The same menu lets the 14.25-inch turntable stop for a large dish, although GE recommends leaving it rotating for ordinary cooking. A protective fan may run 30 minutes or longer after heat rises from the burners below, even after controls are off. Record vent configuration, filter installation, timer setting and recent cooktop use before treating an alert or fan run-on as a mechanical defect.
Choose touchscreen cooking paths and shelf use
PVM2070DMCC has more than one cooking route, so a complaint about one preset should identify the selected screen. GE's exact specifications list many sensor food choices, including bacon, fish, rice and vegetables, as well as ten microwave power levels. The guide separates time cooking from sensor food and beverage selections; Time Cook 1 & 2 can step between two programmed power levels. Defrost has separate choices by time, by weight and by food type. Custom 1 and Custom 2 can be assigned to favored programs, so two owners may see different shortcuts on otherwise identical Home screens. The on-screen Help menu explains features and offers the Troubleshooter without relying on a printed code table. The removable shelf also has a narrower purpose than the large cavity might suggest: GE allows it for multilevel reheating but says not to use it with Sensor Cooking or Reheat. A poor sensor result after using the shelf should therefore prompt a check of mode and accessory rather than an invented error number. Check the summary screen, power setting, turntable position and chosen food type before repeating a program.

A dark Home screen may simply be asleep; OFF does not disconnect power.
