MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE JVM1851BD
Black GE JVM1851BD is a 1.8-cu-ft, 1000W recirculating over-range microwave with one shelf, 14.25-inch tray and three-speed-plus-Boost fan. Its 2002 guide defines SENSOR ERROR and CONTROL LOCKED.
Black recirculating JVM1851BD
JVM1851BD is a black GE microwave for a position over the range. The exact product page specifies a 1.80-cubic-foot cavity, 1000 watts and a 14.25-inch glass turntable. Its single wire shelf and the ability to stop turntable rotation permit certain large or multi-level dishes. The hood returns air into the room in this SKU's listed configuration, with three speeds plus a Boost key. It should not be described as externally vented merely because other JVM1850-family models can be. A halogen lamp lights the oven interior; an incandescent lamp and programmable night setting illuminate the cooktop. The display can present two languages. GE links this exact black product to a 2002 guide whose cover includes JVM1851 but not the retail BD ending. That link, rather than the finish alone, supports use of its instruction pages. The technology is standard microwaving, with no convection mode claimed.
Three-level reheating and programmed functions
This model supports Auto, Time and Quick Defrost, with the quick choice intended for a one-pound amount. Auto Defrost sets time and power for meat, poultry and fish up to six pounds, while a timed method handles other foods. A Custom pad can store a frequently used duration and power but the manual expressly excludes sensor settings from its memory. Reheat has separate plate, eight-to-twelve-ounce pasta and vegetable choices; the beverage key is described for an eight-to-ten-ounce cup. The manual gives a specific way to warm three levels: stop the turntable, double the reheating interval, exchange dish positions twice and turn them halfway. This is different from ordinary single-level sensor Reheat. The shelf must be positioned correctly and taken out for Popcorn, Sensor Cooking and Reheat, despite its usefulness in timed multi-level heating. Program choice and shelf position explain many inconsistent results without suggesting a damaged part.
What can interrupt the humidity program
The humidity sensor adjusts cooking duration to vapor released from food. Before the countdown appears, keep the door closed and use a vented cover over a microwave-safe container with a dry outside. The Popcorn instructions in this edition target bags of three to three-and-a-half ounces; another size calls for Time Cook. Page thirty-eight says SENSOR ERROR can occur if the door opened before steam was detected or steam was not sensed within the maximum interval. If the serving remains cool, GE suggests additional Time Cook rather than a second full automatic attempt. This message reports the outcome of a sensing stage, not proof of a failed board or detector. Repeated alerts should be logged with package size, cover, food type and door timing. A heavy casserole can also exceed the amount intended for a single-serving Reheat, so a timed approach may be more suitable.
Panel lock and cooktop-heat fan
CONTROL LOCKED is a different screen state: hold Clear/Off around three seconds to make the keypad usable again. The vent fan may start on its own when the range beneath becomes very hot, and may keep running while microwave components cool. A user can normally select high, medium, low and off with the fan key, plus Boost; protection operation may temporarily override a request to stop. Neither a locked panel nor an automatically running hood diagnoses a steam sensor problem. If the oven never starts, first distinguish the household supply and door latch from a cooking program that starts but then displays SENSOR ERROR. For service, state whether the microwave heated, which message appeared, the food portion, shelf placement and whether burners were on. Clear observations let the repairer choose the appropriate control, ventilation or sensing checks.

The exact model recirculates air rather than specifying outside exhaust.
