MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE JVM1660WB
White GE Profile JVM1660WB is a 1.6-cu-ft, 1000W over-range microwave with two rack positions, external two-speed hood and a food-temperature probe. Its 2000 guide separates SENSOR ERROR from probe warnings.
White Profile model and linked 2000 guide
JVM1660WB is the white Profile Spacemaker XL designed for an over-range position. Its exact GE page confirms 1.60 cubic feet, 1000 watts and a 13.5-inch glass turntable. A two-speed fan is specified for exterior exhaust; JX81A is only an optional charcoal kit for converting an installation to recirculation. GE lists two wire racks with two positions and traditional microwave technology. That last point matters: this model has a food-temperature probe, but no evidence of convection baking. The linked booklet prints JVM1660 and JVM1661 with a 1000-watt rating on its 2000 cover. The retail WB ending appears on the exact GE page, which establishes the scope of the family instructions. The product also lists distinct sensor keys for chicken, fish, ground meat and three vegetable forms, so a reader should identify this keypad rather than borrow a later menu layout.
Cooking by food temperature rather than time
Temperature Cook/Hold is a defining feature of this version. The probe goes into the food and fully into the receptacle in the oven wall. The manual warns that the turntable does not rotate while the probe is connected, an expected result rather than a motor fault. Pressing Temp Cook/Roast once allows a chosen internal temperature; repeated presses select medium, well or simmer programs. Simmer brings food to 180 degrees Fahrenheit and can hold it there for up to twelve hours. Use a regular timed method for dough, frozen pieces or other foods that are unsuitable for precise probe measurement. The two racks serve suitable multi-level heating, but the source says they come out for sensor cooking. Chicken or fish chosen by an instant sensor key depends on steam and portion preparation, while probe roast depends on the measured food center. These different inputs must stay separate when interpreting a warning.
A sensor cycle interrupted during Popcorn
For Popcorn, the guide assumes a package between 1.75 and 3.5 ounces. Page twenty-seven says opening while POPCORN remains displayed yields SENSOR ERROR. Close the door, Clear/Off and begin again with the proper program. The chart on page forty-five also lists a sensor run with no steam by its maximum allowed time. A vented cover and dry container outside help the humidity detector respond to food instead of stray water. Do not lift the door before steam has been sensed and the countdown has begun. A second complete automatic run on a partly heated serving risks overcooking; use Time Cook for a small measured extension. This sensor message does not identify a broken temperature probe, because that accessory is involved in a different mode. Preserve the displayed wording and the timing of the door movement for a useful service report.
Three messages with different next actions
PLEASE INSERT PROBE means the food thermometer was omitted or not fully seated; reinsert it into the oven-wall socket before Temp Cook or Roast. BAD PROBE can also follow incomplete insertion, but the table adds replacement if the probe itself is defective after reseating. Neither phrase should be inferred from SENSOR ERROR. A fourth status is the locked keypad, released by holding Clear/Off for about three seconds. Rising heat from the range can turn the hood on at low speed until its internals cool, independently of any cooking alert. When food temperature cooking fails, state probe position, selected target, whether the turntable stopped as expected and the exact words. When a sensor food fails, state package weight and any early opening instead. These details map the complaint to the applicable part of the 2000 instructions.
