MODEL OVERVIEW
About this model: GE GSE25HGHWW
The white GSE25HGHWW has a three-minute Door Alarm; its filter can vary by manufacturing date, so check MWF versus XWF on the unit.
Exact model and layout
GSE25HGHWW is a white GE side-by-side with a full-depth cabinet, not a counter-depth version. GE's exact record divides its 25.30 cubic feet into 16.23 fresh-food and 9.03 freezer cubic feet. The exterior is 35 3/4 inches wide and 34 3/4 inches deep, so both measurements matter before replacing it or fitting it between cabinets. Upfront electronic touch controls show actual temperature; the exterior dispenser serves chilled water, cubed ice and crushed ice from a factory-installed icemaker. Its feature list includes a child lock, LED dispenser light, Door Alarm and a separate water-filter indicator. The linked owner PDF names side-by-side Models 22, 23, 25, 26, 27 and 29. The model's capacity identifies the Model 25 class, but options illustrated across that larger family should only be assigned where GE's exact GSE25HGHWW page confirms them. For example, the manual draws Quick Ice on the dispenser page, while this SKU's specification does not list it.
What the panel is telling you
On rendered manual page 16, the Door Alarm control has its own indicator. Press its pad until the light comes on to enable the warning. If either door remains open longer than three minutes, the alarm sounds; closing that door stops the beeping and the light goes out. Test both sides of the cabinet before assuming a control fault: a projecting freezer package or a fresh-food drawer not fully closed can prevent the final few millimetres of door travel. The same page describes holding Lock for three seconds to disable dispenser controls, which is not an error condition. It also says the spill shelf does not drain itself, so wipe up retained water rather than linking it to Door Alarm. This alarm reports a duration of opening, not a displayed diagnostic code for a fan or cooling circuit. If the sound repeats with both door edges even against their gaskets, record when it starts and which light is visible for a technician.
Storage and everyday use
Inside are four fresh-food shelves, three adjustable, two slide-out and two spillproof, above a two-stack drawer system. GE specifies two slide-out freezer baskets, making the storage arrangement distinct from the three-basket PSSF3 and one-basket GSHS5. Push both freezer baskets fully home and keep packages below their rims; a basket edge can hold the freezer door open enough for the timed alert. GE's product record names six-month water filtration and MWF, but it adds XWF for select units manufactured after June 2018. That manufacturing-date note makes a universal cartridge claim unsafe. Identify the installed filter and production label before ordering, rather than buying a cartridge solely from the shared manual's MWF page. The factory icemaker and exterior dispenser rely on a clear water path; a filter warning or poor flow calls for cartridge investigation, whereas the Door Alarm calls first for a door-closing check.
Care, temperatures and checks
The temperature section uses 37°F for the refrigerator and 0°F for the freezer as factory recommendations and asks for 24 hours to stabilize after changes. A temporary actual-temperature rise after loading food is not in itself a reason to keep changing the touch setting. The filter page explains orange then red indicator colours and also mentions reduced dispenser or icemaker flow. After a compatible cartridge is installed, it instructs flushing about 1.5 gallons, approximately three minutes, through the dispenser and describes a three-second filter-pad reset where fitted. Follow the cartridge instructions for the physical unit, especially if it is a later XWF variant. GE's cleaning chapter covers outer surfaces and seals. For a repeated three-minute beep, remove door obstructions, check that the two baskets and drawers are home, clean the gaskets and close both doors. Keep the filter reminder, the dispenser lock and the door alarm as three different signals when explaining a problem to service.
