MODEL OVERVIEW

About this model: GE GGF600AVSS

GGF600AVSS gas range with five exact burners, 600-series oven controls and documented F function error.

Map the five gas burners

GGF600AVSS is GE's 30-inch freestanding gas range with a 5.3-cubic-foot convection oven. Its two front Power Boil burners are each listed at 15,000 BTU; the central burner is 8,000 BTU, the left rear 5,000 and the right rear 9,500. This is a five-burner gas layout under continuous cast grates with a griddle surface, rather than the radiant glass arrangement found on a similarly named electric 600-series range. Choose a burner for the pan and keep the flame beneath the pan bottom. The owner guide warns that flames reaching beyond cookware add hazard without cooking faster. The oven display and the surface knobs also behave differently during a power interruption: the manual says the oven is inoperable, while giving separate, very cautious instructions for surface burners. A dark display after lost power is therefore not automatically an F error.

Use only this model's 600-panel features

The linked 72-page booklet covers gas 600 and 700 Series, not every retail suffix. The exact GGF600AVSS product page provides the needed variant check: it independently lists backsplash cap-touch controls, Convection Bake and Roast, No Preheat Air Fry and Pizza, Fresh Reheat, built-in Wi-Fi and Steam Clean with an EasyWash tray. All are visible on the rendered 600-family panel. Do not infer 700-only options from the shared cover or call this range self-cleaning merely because a general care paragraph mentions Self Clean on some models. GE specifies Steam Clean for this SKU. On the oven screen, F followed by a number or letter means a function error; record the complete sequence, press Cancel and let the oven cool. If it recurs, the troubleshooting table calls for another Cancel, at least thirty seconds with oven power disconnected, then service if the code returns. The suffix alone does not identify a failed part.

Separate Loc and connection trouble from F

Loc is a different display state. The panel's Lock Control button deliberately disables other touch controls after a three-second hold, and the manual's troubleshooting row associates Loc with that lock. Unlock the panel before concluding that a dead keypad needs repair. The right diagnostic path also distinguishes a connectivity problem from an oven function fault: the family table has separate suggestions for Wi-Fi or router trouble if remote operation stops working. Built-in Wi-Fi is part of this exact model, yet the local gas burners, the oven's timed cooking keys and the remote connection do not all fail for the same reason. A cook time that completes and a timer that rings are separate controls; use Cancel and the actual display state when reporting what stopped. In service notes, include whether Loc, F or only an app connection problem was observed.

Choose a convection or reheat path

For cooking, this gas range offers convection modes with moving air, alongside the gas cooktop's direct flame. Convection Bake Multi Rack suits more than one shelf and should be preheated as the manual instructs; Convection Roast is for larger cuts on one rack. The exact listing also supports No Preheat Air Fry and No Preheat Pizza, but these are distinct programs rather than a guarantee that every tray and food needs no preparation. Air Fry uses a single rack; the guide's cooking chart gives placement and food amounts. Fresh Reheat addresses already cooked food and should not be confused with cooking raw food from cold. The oven has two nickel racks and six placement positions, so choose the correct level and a suitable pan before blaming an uneven result on the electronic controller. The griddle sits over the dedicated center burner, while the other burners serve different pan sizes and heat needs.

Maintain burners and the Steam Clean oven

The gas surface needs a care routine distinct from the oven cavity. After cooling and turning all controls off, remove round burner caps and heads only as directed, remember their locations, and replace them correctly; the manual warns that clogged burner ports can produce an uneven flame. Do not remove the fixed oval burner head merely because its drawing appears beside the removable round one. For small oven spills, GE specifies Steam Clean with half a cup of water on a cool oven floor, a closed door and a thirty-minute cycle; wipe remaining soil when safe. The product lists an EasyWash tray and a storage drawer, neither of which makes the cooktop itself self-cleaning. The sequence for a repeated F display should be kept separate from cleaning and flame checks. Give service the exact GGF600AVSS model, full display text, recent power history and whether the issue was on a burner or inside the oven.
