MODEL OVERVIEW

About this model: GE FUF14SURWW

FUF14SURWW guide to electronic Hi Temp, E service display, L/U control lock, frost-free care and exact shelf layout.

Identify the electronic frost-free upright

FUF14SURWW is GE's white 13.70-cubic-foot upright freezer with electronic temperature control and frost-free defrosting. The exact SKU has three cabinet shelves, five door shelves, an interior light and a lock. Two of the door positions are described as juice shelves. Its owner PDF is broader: the cover lists several manual-defrost uprights, no-frost uprights and chest freezers. FUF14S appears in the no-frost upright group, and GE's exact product specification confirms electronic controls. Therefore use the electronic upright instructions for display behavior. The manual's convertible refrigerator/freezer switch and manual-defrost scraping directions belong to other configurations and should not be applied to this fixed freezer.

Read Hi Temp as temperature, not a part name

On the electronic upright panel, Hi Temp and a buzzer accompany internal temperature over 23°F, or −5°C. During first plug-in the lamp and buzzer can start while the cabinet cools; the guide says to allow at least four hours before placing food inside. If temperature later rises again, the sound can repeat hourly until it falls below the threshold. Alarm Reset silences a buzzer but does not lower temperature. Check that a package is not holding the door ajar, then inspect power, settings and food condition. A large warm load and frequent door openings are also listed in troubleshooting; the lamp alone does not prove a failed compressor.

Distinguish E from L and U

The printed electronic-control paragraph gives E a specific service path: contact an authorized technician, even though the freezer will continue running until repaired. Keep checking actual stored-food temperature while arranging that service. L and U have another meaning. Holding Alarm Reset for three seconds locks the controls and shows L; repeating the hold unlocks them and shows U before the temperature setting returns. A temperature button that seems unresponsive may therefore be locked, rather than broken. Record the exact letter and whether Hi Temp was also lit, since a locked control and an over-temperature warning describe separate situations. Do not treat E as a temperature set point.

Use the shelves and automatic defrost correctly

Three main shelves and five door shelves give this upright a different loading pattern from the FCM22 chest freezer. Keep packages clear of the door's sealing edge; the manual names a trapped package as a cause of frequent running and warm temperature. This SKU is frost free, and its care section says no-frost models defrost themselves automatically. Water-drip and fan sounds during that process can be normal; do not scrape the cabinet using the instructions for manual-defrost models. GE still recommends cleaning the interior at least yearly. Unplug before cleaning where practical and avoid excess moisture near the electronic controls and light. The interior lamp helps inspect shelving, but it is not a temperature measurement.

Check space and record repeated warnings

GE's exact listing gives three-inch rear and side air clearances; the shared installation guide adds three inches above. Blocked airflow or a door prevented from closing can prolong running before Hi Temp appears. When a warning returns, note room conditions, recent food loading, door position, displayed letter, buzzer pattern and time since first plug-in or an outage. The freezer's actual model FUF14SURWW and its electronic, frost-free specifications help service distinguish it from manual-defrost or convertible relatives in the same PDF. If E appears, use the authorized-service route rather than trying to clear it with Alarm Reset. No single light or ordinary fan noise proves a specific component is faulty.
