MODEL OVERVIEW

About this model: Bosch SGX78C55UC

Bosch SGX78C55UC guide to its zeolite E:21-30 alert, softener and exact displayed codes.

A lower body with a full-width rack layout

The SGX78C55UC product page and the cover of its linked owner PDF agree on the exact model. This 800 Series dishwasher has a 32 1/16-inch-high body, lower than a conventional 33 7/8-inch built-in unit, but is still 23 9/16 inches wide and 22 9/16 deep. Bosch lists fifteen place settings, a stainless-steel tub and 42 dBA. Check the required cabinet opening and plumbing clearance rather than assuming the reduced height makes any opening suitable. The internal plan includes a third rack for flatware and small utensils, an adjustable upper basket and a lower level for large tableware. Moving the RackMatic basket changes what will fit above and below; confirm that both sides latch evenly and that tall pans do not obstruct the spray arms. The top-control strip is hidden when the door closes, so the red InfoLight projected onto the floor can be a useful running cue. Its existence on this exact SKU matters: front-control Bosch models without InfoLight should not be used to describe this panel.

Programs, salt and smaller loads

The dishwasher has a real water-softening system and a special-salt refill indicator. Its manual gives hardness settings and instructs owners to add dishwasher salt when the level calls for it; the salt compartment is different from the rinse-aid dispenser. Heavy, Auto and Normal serve progressively different everyday soils, while Delicate uses gentler 113–122 °F wash temperatures for compatible glasses and temperature-sensitive pieces. Express is a 30-minute reference for freshly soiled light loads. Machine Care is a two-hour empty-appliance procedure at 162 °F, so it should not be loaded with plates. Favorite initially recalls a cold pre-rinse on this model, then can be changed to a chosen program-and-option combination; note what has actually been saved before judging its nine-minute reference. Half Load is intended for a small amount of dishware and calls for less detergent, with lower time and consumption. These distinctions are more useful than selecting the shortest visible label without considering what must be cleaned.

Zeolite and water messages on the display

CrystalDry is part of this exact product's drying specification, and the manual describes a zeolite container with an intake opening that must remain unobstructed. E:21-30 is unusually specific: Bosch says items cover that intake and instructs rearranging them; it does not identify a failed drying motor. E:20-60, by contrast, means calcification was detected at the heating element and leads to descaling and the water-softening instructions applicable here. The crystal-drying option can extend the drying stage, so a longer total duration is not automatically a malfunction. Water messages have another logic. E:30-00 and E:31-00 mark activated water protection, calling for closure of the supply and contact with service. E:32-00 can result from a closed or restricted inlet, alongside the physical water-supply symbol. E:34-00 means water continues to enter and also requires closing the supply. Copy the complete code before any reset; the first checks differ sharply between restricted inlet and active protection.

Drain, voltage and filter routes

The drainage table uses exact punctuation that should be preserved. E:61-02 concerns a pump cover that has not locked or a foreign object at the pump, and the manual says this can be a non-appliance fault. E:61-03 is the separate no-drain entry: a disposal plug, kinked drain hose, loose cover or missing high loop may be responsible. Those are installation or blockage checks, not automatic proof that the drain motor burned out. E:90-01 instead points to low household voltage and an electrician; E:92-40 identifies filters that need cleaning. For a different E-code in the listed E:01-00 to E:90-10 range, Bosch provides an off/power-disconnect interval and customer-service route if the issue recurs. AquaStop Plus on this SKU adds a hose around the inlet for extra leak protection, but that hardware specification must not be used to relabel every no-drain message as a leak. Safely observing the whole display, water level and point in the program gives service better evidence than an isolated code copied from a search result.

Read status lights separately from faults

Other panel indications serve ordinary operating functions. A special-salt light calls for the softener supply; the rinse-aid light points to a different dispenser, and the WLAN symbol reflects Home Connect status. The product lists remote monitoring and control, while the owner manual explains that InfoLight shines below the door while a program is running and can be configured in basic settings. A vanished floor spot at program end is therefore not a code. Favorite may still be set to the short cold pre-rinse from the factory, and Half Load may alter the predicted run time because it changes the load target. Confirm both choices before treating a short or long timer reading as failure. CrystalDry's zeolite openings need room around them, and the third rack must be loaded without blocking water movement. A concise record of the chosen cycle, salt and rinse indicators, whether InfoLight was on, and any complete E-message makes this model's own PDF a practical diagnostic guide.
